Uses
Tiniba (Tinidazole) is an antibiotic (antiprotozoal) medication which works by destroying organisms responsible for causing infections. This drug is used to treat a wide range of infections, such as trichomoniasis (a type of sexually transmitted disease), giardiasis, amoebiasis, vaginitis, certain parasitic infections, ulcerative gingivitis and various other infections. In some cases, it may be prescribed eliminate helicobacter pylori (a type of bacteria) in patients affected by peptic ulcers.
Dosage and Administration
Patients should consult their doctor before taking this medicine, so that they can be told the correct amount to take. Patients taking Tiniba (Tinidazole) for trichomoniasis may be prescribed a dosage of 2g, taken once with food. Generally speaking, the adult dosage for giardiasis is the same as that for trichomoniasis, whereas adults taking this medicine for amebiasis (also spelled amoebiasis) are treated with a dosage of 2g, taken once per day for 3 days. Other conditions may require different dosage regimens, and in all cases, patients must only take the amount prescribed by their doctor.
Side effects
Patients taking Tiniba (Tinidazole) may sometimes experience side effects, such as:
- Fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Vaginal symptoms
- Cramps affecting the stomach
- An unpleasant taste in the mouth
Tell your doctor about any side effects that occur. You will need medical care straight away if you notice seizures, fever, numbness, severe pain, aches or any other serious side effects.
Precautions
This medicine will not work for viral infections.
Your doctor may tell you not to drink alcohol while taking this medicine, and for 3 days after you have finished treatment, so as to reduce the risk of side effects.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Tininiba (Tinidazole) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
